Wisteria Sinensis Chinese Kidney Bean Deciduous Shrub Hardy

The “Sinensis” is a vigorous climber that produces long, beautiful racemes of light-pink purple flowers. The main flowering season are towards the middle to end of spring and through the summer. The individual flowers are pea-shaped and bear a lovely fragrance which attracts a variety of pollinators like bees and butterflies. It is a nitrogen-fixing plant and will replenish this nutrient back into the soil. It is a deciduous, twining climber that is native to China. It is hardy to all colder temperatures in the UK. The leaves are ovate in shape, approximately 5 cm in length and are formed in odd-pinnately compounds. Following the blooming of the flowers, an elongated seed pod which is brownish in colour is produced. Most plants of these species are grafted due to the length of time it takes a mature plant to produce flowers from seed. Suggested uses are along border walls and areas with arbors that allow the long racemes of flowers to hang and show off their vibrant beauty. Pot Size: 9cm Plant Height (Inc. Pot): 30-50cm Characteristics: Beautiful pink-lavender flowers in racemes of up to 0.3 m. Growth & Spread: They can grow to heights of 12 m or more and with spreads of over 8 m. Flourishing Season: Flowering in the Spring and Summer Water & Maintenance: Water well until established and then once established it prefers a moist and well-draining soil, so it may need watering during drier weather. A medium level of maintenance is required. It can be trained along a garden wall or into a free-standing plant, and may require twice a year pruning.
