Carex testacea is also known as Orange New Zealand Sedge, partly due to the vivid coppery-orange the leaves turn in Autumn and Winter. This striking ornamental grass plant is ideal for creating a focal point in the garden during the colder months of the year. The long, slender leaves arch to form a fountain shape that looks striking cascading from pots and containers. It creates a fantastic colour contrast with other greenery around the garden, has year-round appeal and is pet-friendly too. Carex is undemanding and grows well in most soil types, as long as it is moderately fertile and well-draining. Container grown Carex testacea may need some additional insulation during Winter to protect the roots from harsh temperatures.
