Product Description

The flavoursome and sweet Gooseberry 'Hinnomaki Red' will produce delicious and plump sweet tasting berries from June through to early August, where you can expect masses of crops to create jams and add to your favourite pies/desserts! This high yielding hardy shrub, will vigorously grow and perform beautifully and show a good resistance to diseases. Plant gooseberry bushes in an open sunny position on any well drained soil. Prior to planting, incorporate a generous amount of well rotted manure or garden compost into the soil. Remove any shoots or dormant buds from the base of the plant as these will produce unwanted suckers later on. Water well for the first year until plants are fully established. When growing gooseberries, the soil must not dry out during hot periods, particularly while the fruit is being formed. Remove any suckers from the base of the plant as they arise. Harvest some gooseberries for cooking and freezing in May, leaving the remaining fruit to ripen fully in June for eating fresh from the bush. Prune gooseberry plants in winter. Remove dead, damaged and crossing stems, before thinning the remaining stems to create an upright open bush. Shorten the remaining stems by half. Product Specifications: Position: Sun or semi shade Height: Up to 120cm (48in) when fully established Spread: Up to 120cm (48in) when fully established Supplied as 1 x 9cm Potted Plant Delivered with growing and care instructions Images shown are for guidance only of the expected results from plants upon maturity. Different growing conditions might vary results. Image may be included for illustration of supply but can vary due to seasonality changes (e.g. deciduous plants lose leaves in colder months).
