This versatile, upright shrub can grow to a height of around 3m when left unpruned, but it’s also incredibly easy to keep it small as it responds very well to a hard prune. Its natural habit is tall and columnar, which is what makes this variety so well suited to growing against the house or as a free-standing shrub. But you can also use it to create an impenetrable and secure hedge. During spring, Pyracantha produces dense clusters of white flowers which are a magnet for bees. These blooms then develop into beautiful bright red berries which not only provide wonderful autumn colour, but they’re also a valuable food for wild birds. Grow Pyracantha plants as free standing shrubs or trained against a walls and fences. Plant Pyracantha in any well drained, reliably moist soil in sun or semi shade. Choose a position with shelter from cold, drying winds. Feed and water Pyracantha plants regularly until full established.
